I have a goal of not buying any new maternity clothes this pregnancy. It's sort of a laughable goal because while I'm not usually a big shopper (unless we're talking Marshalls or TJMaxx - high fives to the Maxxinistas out there), I have this strange soft spot/impulse for buying maternity clothes, especially when I can find a good deal. It makes no sense considering you only wear these clothes for a few months. Rational decisions are never my strong suit when hormones are in full effect. But given our new budget I'm committed to stopping the insanity.

In looking at this pic, these pants make me look a little wide, no? Totally worth it as they are COMFY to the max. |
I have all my clothes from my prior two pregnancies and I did already add two pairs of black work pants, a black skirt, a sweater and gray tank top all from Gap (on sale for a total of $100 including tax) and I got an awesome navy dress, a yellow cardigan and gray shirt from Stitch Fix (for about $160 total). (PS, never tried Stitch Fix? Use my referral code here! They have maternity and non maternity, so everyone can try it! You fill out a style profile and then a stylist selects 5 items, mails them to you so you can try them on in the comfort of your own home and you keep what you want and mail back what you don't like. It's great if you're strapped for time, hate shopping or in a style rut.) The new maternity clothes were to account for the weight loss I've had this past year - I started this pregnancy about 10 pounds less than with the boys so while I was a S/M my last pregnancy (and solid M/L with Lukas topping the charts at over 200 pounds), I'm an XS/S this time around. So those large black works pants are hopefully not going to fit any time soon, if ever.

The bump is starting to appear! And clearly I should've gotten the iron out. Oops. |
In order to not spend more money on maternity clothes (especially since this is likely our last baby), I figure I'm going to need to get creative with my outfits. Mix and match. Try new styles. Ya know, get funky. And I figured I'd document that attempted creativity on the blog and show you what I come up with every day.

These are NOT maternity pants. Seriously. Please tell me who is wearing these NOT pregnant?! |
Today is jeans day at work but it's too dang hot for jeans, so I opted for a pair of non-maternity gray linen pants that have a stretchy waist (gifted to me by my momma), paired with a gray maternity top from Gap (circa pregnancy round 1), black/blue sandals and two bright necklaces. The key to maternity style, for any new moms-to-be out there, is to accessorize! I should probably commit to not buying any new accessories either, but I feel like that's just setting myself up for failure.

Black sandals with a little poop of color in the back. Oh, hello! |
Oh and if you have any XS/S/M maternity clothes you're looking to part with or don't mind loaning out, hit a girl up!

I doubled the necklaces, but I'm not sure how I like it. What do you think? Also, I am in need of a new hairstyle, I think. Any thoughts? And note to self: Put on LIPSTICK prior to taking pictures of yourself! (Here's my current go to fave.) |
Yes, love the necklaces. And you wrote POOP of color about the shoes. (leave it, it's funny!). Not a fan of those wide legged pants however. I like your hair. I wouldn't change it.
ReplyDeleteOops, clearly I need to spend a bit more time proof-reading!
